Mansfield CVS and ABL Health have come together to appoint a dedicated Health & Wellbeing Officer for the Bellamy estate.

Local organisations join forces to improve the health of the Bellamy Community

Mansfield CVS and ABL Health have come together to appoint a dedicated Health & Wellbeing Officer for the Bellamy estate.

Mansfield CVS, an infrastructure charity in Mansfield, have been working in the Bellamy estate over the past 18 months as part of the NHSEI (NHS England and NHS Improvement) funding.

Last year, ABL Health became involved with the work on the Bellamy estate, also through funding received as part of the NHSEI bid. Reflecting on this work, colleagues from ABL Health, MCVS, Mansfield District Council (MDC), Mansfield Place Based Partnership (PBP) and Active Notts, decided to explore the possibility of using the Your Health Your Way (YHYW) Community Fund to create a permanent role to engage Bellamy residents in health services.

This idea was well received, and a role was co-designed with MCVS, Active Notts, MDC and ABL Health.  Partners prior knowledge and experience, as well as learning from the original project and feedback gathered from Bellamy residents was all used to tailor the job description. It was decided that MCVS would host and manage the role, potentially removing any stigma associated with healthcare providers.

After months of planning and effective partnership working, we successfully recruited Kirsty Armstrong-Booth to the role.

Kirsty will focus on developing relationships with residents and being the conduit to YHYW and other local partners to help us ABL Health better understand how to tailor their service delivery to meet community needs.

Dom Duggan, Head of Strategic Partnerships for ABL Health: “After lots of hard work, planning and conversations with our partners, I’m delighted that this role has now been filled. It feels like a landmark moment for the Your Health Your Way service, taking a collaborative and innovative approach to tackling health inequalities by bringing key partners together in an area where need is high. By pooling the collective resources and knowledge of ABL and MCVS, plus the local insight from Bellamy residents, I believe we have created a bespoke role that has all the ingredients for success!”

Vanessa Whitton, CEO of Mansfield CVS added “We are excited to be working in partnership with ABL Health on the Bellamy estate. I believe that local residents will truly benefit from having Kirsty as a dedicated person that can help to reduce health inequalities in the area.  This type of collaborative working between industry experts is essential for the community to be able to thrive.”
