Mansfield Volunteers Recognised at Annual Awards

John joined the BBO programme in August 2018, having been unemployed for a year.

He had worked as a Furniture Finisher for many years, however, with the industry becoming a ‘dying trade’, he eventually found himself out of work.

John had some health issues but didn’t believe that this prevented him from working. However, he felt that his age (60) could hinder his chances of finding work.

John wanted to improve some of his skills and also build his confidence.

Whilst on the BBO programme, John attended various courses designed either to boost his confidence or to “upskill” him and received guidance on searching for jobs. As a result, John is now in full time work.

He Said:

“All aspects of this course have been brilliant, from the Job Brokers, Work Coaches and your Tutors, I found nothing was too much trouble for them. The confidence I gained helped me with numerous courses, including Maths and Customer Service courses, and the end result is I’ve secured myself a job. All in all, a great experience.”

If anyone requires any support around gaining education/training, employment or help with job search to contact a member of the Building Better Opportunities team on 01623 362505.

Seven awards were given to acknowledge those who have given their time voluntarily, paid workers who have gone above and beyond within the voluntary sector and businesses who have given unpaid support to the voluntary sector within the Mansfield District.

The awards took place at the John Fretwell Sporting Complex with guests from Mansfield District Council, Notts County Council and many partner organisations. The Giving Machine is a unique registered charity that enables you to generate sales commissions with every online purchase.  They convert all commissions into free donations for the schools, charities and other community organisations you choose.
