Housing Volunteer
Role Summary
Please note: this is NOT a care role.
Rise Houses CIC is a growing organisation based in Portsmouth. We provide supported accommodation to adults who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Many of our residents also suffer from other challenges such as mental health and alcohol related issues. At rise we offer a fresh start to people who are recovering from hardships in life. We aim to help empower our residents to address their health and wellbeing while preparing them for independent living. We are a small team who aim to provide high standards of accommodation and support to those who really need it.
Volunteers with an interest in helping vulnerable adults in the housing sector are needed by our organisation. Tasks will vary on a daily basis , so volunteers must be willing to accept new opportunities and responsibilities as they arise.
The role will include duties such as helping residents with:
- Applying for benefits and maximising income.
- Building life skills, including cooking cleaning and maintaining a home.
- Understanding and maintaining a tenancy.
- Personal administration tasks.
- Taking house meetings.
This role will give you the opportunity to:
- Gain experience of supporting clients with support needs.
- Opportunity to study for health and social care Level 2 or 3.
- Gain effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Showcase your passion for helping others. Show empathy and practice good listening skills.
- Gain confidence to work independently.
- Become computer literate.
