New Salvation Army Donation Centre and Superstore to open in Mansfield

The Salvation Army is set to open a new donation centre in Mansfield on 18 July.

The brand new store which is in the former Frankie & Benny’s on Portland Retail Park, is a donation centre and has been designed as an open-format donation drop-off point which engage shoppers and donors with the donation process as they can see ‘behind the scenes’. The large store also has parking so that donators and shoppers have convenient access.

A big part of the Salvation Army’s ethos is to protect the environment and encourages people to reuse and recycle rather than buying new and adding to landfill. Donation centres provide an opportunity to support the charity and divert unwanted items going to landfill. The centre will accept the usual donations to charity shops but also bigger items such as furniture.

The new store has a variety of volunteer roles, such as:

  • Media Volunteer: If you love TV, Music, and Games, they are looking for knowledgeable people to support their team sorting, price, research and display their media
  • Sales Assistant: If you love chatting, you could discuss their Gift Aid Scheme to customers bringing in donations! As well as helping people feel welcome and assisting with purchases.
  • Sort Room Assistant: If your an organised lover of neat and tidiness, this is a perfect opportunity to help Salvation Army organise their stock.
  • Book Volunteer: Bookworms welcome to help keep the books organised and looking professional on the sales floor. They have so many donated, we need help to sort, price, research, display in their stores.
  • Social Media: Anyone interested in social media. With experience using platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat etc. A great opportunity to reinvent the charity for generations to come.
  • Jewellery and Accessories: If you have a passion for fashion, your expertise will be greatly needed for support in their shops.
  • Bric-A-Brac Volunteer: For anyone interested in unusual items and antiques. Help select, price and create displays of the more unusual items.
  • Volunteer Key Holder: For anyone wishing to gain experience and responsibility in the retail sector. Make a difference and support the great work of The Salvation Army.
